If you’re a serious collector or just a fan of highly detailed models, the Hammond collection from Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom needs no introduction. These highly detailed, articulable figures have taken the collecting world by storm, including myself!
Unboxing and Initial Impressions
Right out of the box, the matte black Hammond Collection packaging was immediately impressive. With Jurassic logos and machinery details, the Carnotaurus feels less like a toy and more like a high-end display piece. In fact, you could easily keep these figures in-box for display and they would look incredible. The Carnotaurus is easy enough to unbox, though it arrives with its tail disconnected, likely due to its size and rigidity.
Detail and Articulation Galore
Once assembled, the Carnotaurus truly shines. The level of detail on this figure is simply astonishing. From the intricate skin patterns and osteoderms to the sharply pointed, individual teeth, Mattel has really pushed the boundaries with this one. The “jewel eye” effect, a hallmark of the Hammond Collection, is particularly effective here, creating an almost uncanny illusion of life.
Posability for Days
But the detail is only half the story. The Hammond Collection is famous for its articulation, and the Carnotaurus is no exception. With multiple points of movement in the neck, torso, legs, and even the tiny arms (complete with elbow articulation!), the posability options are virtually endless. The bendable, soft tail is another welcome feature, allowing for even more dynamic poses.
Perfect Scale and Proportions
For those concerned with scale accuracy, the Carnotaurus does not disappoint. When standing next to other figures in the collection, like the Hammond Collection Dr. Malcolm, it appears appropriately large, as it was in the films. The feet are also proportioned correctly, avoiding the oversized “stomper” feet sometimes found on similar figures.
A Must-Have for Any Collector
When comparing the Carnotaurus to other flagship figures in the line, like the Jiggonottosaurus from Dominion, the level of quality is consistent. These are truly the gems of the Hammond Collection.
