Honest Review of Mattel Jurassic World Mattel Jurassic Park Hammond Collection T Rex

For many of us, our love for dinosaurs started with a plastic T-Rex in a sandbox. I can remember the chunky, rubbery figures of the 90s: charming, sure, but a far cry from what we saw on the big screen. If you’re looking to upgrade your nostalgia to a “collector’s level” experience, you have to check out this Mattel Hammond Collection Tyrannosaurus Rex.

While this figure is becoming harder to find in the wild, it remains the gold standard for Jurassic fans. Here is why you should snatch one up if you see it pop up on Amazon or a collector’s site.

The Genesis of a New Era

The Hammond Collection wasn’t just another toy line. It was a “launching pad”! It signaled Mattel’s shift toward highly articulable, incredibly detailed figures designed specifically for the adult collector. This T-Rex is the genesis of that movement. It set the stage for everything that followed, proving that a retail dinosaur could have the soul of a high-end statue.

Screen-Accurate Detail

What sets this T Rex apart from its predecessors for me is the sheer level of detail. It feels as though Mattel pulled directly from the original digital scans provided by the film producers. The sculpt captures the power and menace of the T Rex perfectly.

The paint application is equally impressive. Instead of the blotchy, spotted patterns often seen on mass-market toys, the Hammond Collection features beautiful “feathering.” The colors blend naturally, making the transition from the dark spine to the lighter underbelly look organic and lifelike.

Unprecedented Articulation

The real magic though is in the movement. We’ve never really received this level of articulation in a T-Rex before. You can bend the neck in almost any direction, allowing you to recreate iconic poses from the movie.

Beyond the neck, the points of articulation extend to the arms, the tail, and even the mouth, which looks fantastic when opened. One of my favorite subtle touches is the “jewel eye.” It catches the light in a way that gives the creature a sense of life and intelligence.

Scale and Presence

When you stand this T-Rex next to a 3-inch Ian Malcolm figure, you realize just how perfect the scaling is. It captures the massive, intimidating presence the animal had in the films.

If there is one minor gripe, it’s that the feet are a bit oversized to me. A design choice likely made to ensure the figure could stand steadily. While Mattel has reduced the foot size on some later releases, it’s a not a big deal once you have it on display.

The Verdict

The Mattel Hammond Collection T-Rex is more than a toy, it’s a centerpiece. If you’re in the market for a definitive Jurassic Park piece, I highly suggest scooping this one up. It’s a piece of toy history that brings the “King of the Dinosaurs” to life like never before.
