My Review of the Mattel Jurassic World Amber Collection Dr. Ian Malcolm

Here’s another quick review, this time of the Mattel Amber Collection Dr. Ian Malcolm figure from the original Jurassic Park! If you’re a fan of the iconic mathematician and his memorable lines about chaos theory, this figure is a must-have for your collection. Part of Mattel’s limited Amber Collection line, this 6.5-inch figure is taller and more detailed than standard action figures, offering a higher level of poseability and movie accuracy.

Detailed Design and Articulation

One of the first things I want to mention about the Amber Collection Ian Malcolm is the incredible attention to detail. The sculpt captures Jeff Goldblum’s likeness with remarkable precision for a toy, from his signature glasses and open black shirt to his casual but focused expression. The figure also has numerous points of articulation, allowing for a wide range of dynamic poses. You can adjust the head, torso, arms (shoulders, elbows, wrists), and legs (hips, knees, ankles) to recreate Ian Malcolm’s classic moments from the movie.

Cool Accessories

No Ian Malcolm figure would be complete without his accessories. The Amber Collection version includes a couple of swap-out hands, a small flare (perfect for distracting a T-Rex), and most importantly, a cup of water. This little detail lets you recreate the sequence where Ian Malcolm explains chaos theory to Dr. Ellie Sattler using water droplets on her hand.

Collector’s Choice

Whether you’re looking for a figure to display on your shelf or one to play with, the Amber Collection Ian Malcolm is a great choice. The high level of detail and poseability make it perfect for creating impressive dioramas or just enjoying as a standalone piece. Keep in mind that this 6.5-inch figure is in a different scale than Mattel’s main Jurassic World dinosaur line, so it won’t necessarily be perfectly compatible for play and to scale. However, as a standalone collector’s item or as part of a dedicated Amber Collection display, it’s easily one of the best Ian Malcolm figures ever released in my opinion.
