My Review of the Mattel Jurassic Park III Hammond Collection Velociraptor

Velociraptors in Jurassic Park III had a very distinct, iconic look. Today, we’re looking at the Hammond Collection Jurassic Park III Male Alpha Raptor, and it might just be the best version Mattel has ever released.

Screen-Accurate Detail

The first thing you’ll notice is the incredible attention to detail. This figure perfectly captures the “Male Alpha” look from the film, featuring the signature quill-like plumage on the head and those distinct crests. The paint job is top-notch, with a striking stripe running down the body and impressive airbrushing on the underbelly that gives it a high-end, realistic feel.

Articulation and Posing

Like other figures in the Hammond Collection, the articulation is where this raptor truly shines. It features:

  • A flexible, bendable tail
  • Multiple joints at the neck, shoulders, elbows, knees, and ankles
  • An opening and closing jaw

Because it has so many points of movement, you can create some truly dynamic, “movie-moment” poses.

Size and Scale

In terms of scale, this raptor stands perfectly alongside other figures. It’s roughly the same height as the Dr. Ian Malcolm figure, but if you pair it against a massive Giganotosaurus, you really see that terrifying size difference!

Final Verdict

If you are looking for a highly detailed, poseable, and screen-accurate raptor, this is it. It’s easily the best Jurassic Park III raptor we’ve seen from Mattel so far.
